Always up-to-date on the latest news and trends.

We stress the importance of continuing professional education to keep all of our practitioners well informed regarding the latest developments in treatment methods and technology for the benefit of our patients.

In order for our practitioners to maintain their certification, they must attend on-going ABC certified education that ensure their awareness of new techniques and research findings.

The American Board for Certification Background Information

The American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics was established in 1948 and continues to work setting clinical standards and furthering professionalism in the field.

Snell’s embraced this standard with Jim Snell becoming the 21st Certified Prosthetist-Orthotist (CPO) in the country that same year.

Current President, Clint Snell, CPO, broadened the company’s commitment through his service as an ABC examiner from 1971-1981. He served for five years on the Exam Committee, assisting in writing and administering the certification exam for the field.

With further developments and escalation of technical knowledge required to practice O&P, the educational requirements for certification became more rigorous. In 1970, ABC recognized that continuing education is important to both the ABC and the profession as a whole. Two years later, the ABC Continuing Education Policy Department Committee was created.

All certified practitioners and technicians are now required to maintain specific numbers of continuing education hours, over specified time periods, depending upon their level of certification.

Currently, practitioners coming into the field are required to have a minimum of a bachelor’s ncope_accreddegree in orthotics and prosthetics or a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in another field and a post-graduate certificate program in orthotics and prosthetics, and to have successfully completed a 12-month National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education   accredited residency program.

Snell’s is now and has been an ABC approved residency program site since 1996.
